School Newsletter: October 1, 2021

10/1/2021

FROM MRS. POWELL

Welcome to October. What better way to start off this month by acknowledging the feast of St.Therese of Lisieux (October 1st). She embodies the actualization of a young and modern person’s potential to will holiness through smallest deeds. Our students will be presented this concept throughout this month to foster a yearning to live out small acts with love here at school and home. Please join us in frequently reminding your child to practice such virtue intentionally as we as parents seek this for ourselves.

As we embark on fall, please keep in mind that we are all going to battle the typical cold and flu issues as we have always encountered pre- COVID. However, with a heightened awareness of the pandemic, we are grateful for all your efforts to detect if your child needs to remain home, recuperate and if needed, be tested according to the flow chart.  We are happy to see negative tests coming back with students simply battling cold symptoms that subside within a couple of days. As usual, we are following all guidance by the Archdiocese of Seattle and Kitsap Public Health Department to ensure safety is being practiced with every sign of illness presented.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to have had Dr. Tom Curran provide our staff with solid professional and spiritual development this past Friday. It is crucial for your children’s instructors to have continuous formation of their intellect and soul to better serve your students. His prowess as a public speaker made listening to his years of experience and deep wisdom a joy. If you could not make the First Friday Family Faith Formation night with Dr. Curran on the state of the culture and best parenting practices, please consider listening to one or more of his amazing podcasts, Sound Insight For Catholic Living with Dr. Tom Curran.

    CATHOLIC LIBERAL EDUCATION IN ACTION
In Music classes grades Kindergarten -2nd, Mrs. Pesely worked on a variety of skills from exposure to the beauty of classical music, pitch exploration, daily rhythm exercises, an introduction to solfege (learning the building blocks of melodies using do, re, mi, etc- think Sound of Music), song dances, solo singing, clear articulation of words within a menagerie of sources from folk songs, musical rhymes, and a Catholic hymn called As I Kneel Before You. The children are super engaged and learning a whole new aspect of music.
