Thanks to all who attended our mandatory parent conferences. This provided an opportunity for parents and teachers to become more acquainted with each other, discuss workload, expectations, and determine current progress. If for some reason you were unable to attend, please reach out to your child’s teacher(s) for an in person or phone conference in the upcoming week.
Our Witnesses of the Week deserve a round of applause for demonstrating “studiousness” as it has been our virtue of the month. George L (7th) extended his in-class science studies by independently researching beyond the expected requirements. He brought new knowledge to the whole class through his desire to wonder, observe and analyze. Emilia P (5th) likewise challenged herself by going above and beyond on her given English assignment. We are grateful for the effort made by these two individuals and many others who reflect our school’s vision to view learning as desirable rather than a chore. I would like to address the vitality of our Parent’s Club. Rather than a mere collection of individuals, we have a strong and supportive school group that’s actively scheduling and planning for many of our upcoming events that make our school culture so special. If you are looking for volunteer hours, please consider attending a meeting to discover the various ways your talents could be put to use. Many parents fear that attending may lead to a bottomless hole of volunteering. Keep in mind that you don’t have to agree to every request that comes your way. On a side note, Parent’s Club organizes our Sunday Mass Hospitality once a month. I would highly encourage our class parents to consider participating when it’s your child’s homeroom turn. We feel it’s important for our parish community to see the faces of Star parents and possibly hear your reasons for selecting us for your child’s educational needs. It has often been said that the best means of evangelization is through encouragement of Catholic school participation. Thanks. IMPORTANT REMINDERS

The highlight of their trip always includes a healthy hike with stunning views that reveal the omnipotent power of God and His desire to surround us in beauty. The three day retreat also entailed great discussions and activities led by our talented missionaries who connect so well with these teens. We just concluded our MAP assessments in the areas of Reading, Language Arts and Mathematics. I am grateful for the effort put forth by our students as these summative assessments require much focus and endurance for true representation of academic growth. Your child’s teacher will be able to share these results with each family at your upcoming conference or within the first trimester report card.
As the year progresses, we are establishing our student body council that has always been part of our school community. Mrs. Kilgallen will be heading up the elected officers and representatives from grades 3-8. Their list of responsibilities include leading morning prayers, fundraising, organizing service projects, presenting to groups, setting up events, writing student newsletters, and more. We invite students to make this commitment to serve their peers, the Church and the community at large. Furthermore, your ability to present yourself and communicate effectively will be heavily encouraged as part of our new curriculum. Class representative and student council speeches have been extended in hopes of seeing greater participation. I truly look forward to hearing well written brief speeches by many of your children. *Please see the schedule below. Finally as both volleyball and cross country came to a close, I want to thank again the athletes and coaches for their commitment to honor the gift of physical movement through teamwork and graciousness while tackling the finer points of both sports. Some students referenced viewing sunrises, hiked landscapes, and sun shining through stained glass windows of our own church. In addition, this first week of art focused on how to improve one's drawing skills. “Mark making”, our basic ability to be purposeful and controlled in our application of pencil to paper, is key to developing skill. These exercises promoted fine motor skill, hand-eye coordination, focus, and discipline. Mr. Ogilvie is a wonderful addition to our liberal education staff. Welcome to October. What better way to start off this month by acknowledging the feast of St.Therese of Lisieux (October 1st). She embodies the actualization of a young and modern person’s potential to will holiness through smallest deeds. Our students will be presented this concept throughout this month to foster a yearning to live out small acts with love here at school and home. Please join us in frequently reminding your child to practice such virtue intentionally as we as parents seek this for ourselves. As we embark on fall, please keep in mind that we are all going to battle the typical cold and flu issues as we have always encountered pre- COVID. However, with a heightened awareness of the pandemic, we are grateful for all your efforts to detect if your child needs to remain home, recuperate and if needed, be tested according to the flow chart. We are happy to see negative tests coming back with students simply battling cold symptoms that subside within a couple of days. As usual, we are following all guidance by the Archdiocese of Seattle and Kitsap Public Health Department to ensure safety is being practiced with every sign of illness presented. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have had Dr. Tom Curran provide our staff with solid professional and spiritual development this past Friday. It is crucial for your children’s instructors to have continuous formation of their intellect and soul to better serve your students. His prowess as a public speaker made listening to his years of experience and deep wisdom a joy. If you could not make the First Friday Family Faith Formation night with Dr. Curran on the state of the culture and best parenting practices, please consider listening to one or more of his amazing podcasts, Sound Insight For Catholic Living with Dr. Tom Curran.
