Thank you for considering applying to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School. We love walking together with families to discover and live more deeply the abundant life of Jesus Christ. As a school community we desire ongoing conversion through the mercy, grace and love of God, no matter where we find ourselves on our faith journey. To fulfill our mission, we ask that our families enter a partnership with us, and that they desire to share and support the vision and the mission of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish School.
As you approach this application, please prayerfully reflect on the following vision and commitments that are asked of all families and determine if these align with your family’s mission and goals.
Our Lady Star of the Sea Mission Statement
Under the patronage of our Blessed Mother, the mission of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School is to support parents in their role as the primary educators of their children. Our classical training nourishes students’ natural sense of wonder and guides them to know and love what is genuinely good, true, and beautiful. Faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church, we form our students to be virtuous disciples of Jesus Christ and joyful witnesses to the Gospel.
1. We understand and support that the teachings of the Catholic Church enlighten and inform all areas of the curriculum and culture of Our Lady Star of the Sea School.
2. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that:
Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues. This requires an apprenticeship in self-denial, sound judgment, and self-mastery - the preconditions of all true freedom. Parents should teach their children to subordinate the "material and instinctual dimensions to interior and spiritual ones." Parents have a grave responsibility to give good example to their children.
We accept our role as the primary educators of our children as explained in the Catechism, and desire to work together with clergy, school administration, teachers, and staff to help us fulfill this responsibility as parents.
3. We will diligently practice our Catholic faith by participating in the Sacramental life of the Church.
4. We will witness by our behavior, actions, and words; a life which is consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church. We will not engage in any conduct or lifestyle, whether in our personal or public life, that would be contrary to the moral and religious teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
