I would like to share my deepest gratitude to Star parents for supporting the school staff and overall mission. Teachers have enjoyed implementing the classical liberal arts education alongside parents who seek to understand and invest themselves in their child’s education. We look forward to our second year of adopting additional practices that will further suit each child’s developmental stage of learning. Please pray for our teachers as they will continue their professional development in the liberal arts philosophy through their attendance at the ICLE’s National Conference this July at Catholic University (Maryland). Finally, I pray that you will have a wonderful and safe summer!!!

Perhaps some families will have a greater opportunity to engage in more family-oriented activities and/or acquire new ones. Many folks travel during summer, but when not away there is often a chance for greater family bonding. Here are just a few suggestions of family activities: ● Cook a new recipe ● Plant a garden or pots ● Learn to play a new sport ● Build puzzles ● Read as a family (Aesop’s Fables is always a winner) ● Study our local geography through maps ● Perform a mini theatrical play ● Workout or hike together ● Learn a new chore and/or clean out closets ● Learn a new prayer or psalm together ● Watch Catholic saint movies on Formed https://formed.org/ ● Celebrate feast days with a special dessert (see feasts listed below) AWARDS FOR THE YEAR Congratulations to students who were presented awards for the 2021/22 school year on Friday. If you have ideas how to make this fundraising program a greater success and would consider this position, please let the office know as soon as possible. In order to best prepare parents for next year’s volunteer opportunities, a thorough list of activities has been given -allowing families to familiarize themselves with the possibilities and pre-plan their ways of earning volunteer hours (see attached flyer). SUMMER READING REQUIREMENT Summer reading is critical for students to retain knowledge and skills learned in this past school year. Parents should consider promoting reading as just another form of activity during the summer months so that this becomes second nature. Teachers in grades 3-8 have provided a required book to be read by each student entering these grades before Aug. 30. Thank you for purchasing the book or finding it within your public library (see attached flyer). UNIFORMS An updated list of uniform items for the 2022/23 school year has been provided. Besides visiting Ideal Commercial Uniform in Bremerton, families can go online to order, email the office to purchase from our used closet, or wait for the New Parent Orientation on Aug. 21st (see attached flyer). SUMMER MONTH FEAST DAYS June 19 - Corpus Christi July 29 - St. Martha (give up all chores) July 31 - St. Ignatius August 4 - St. John Vianney August 6 - Transfiguration SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT Under the patronage of our Blessed Mother, the mission of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School is to support parents in their role as the primary educators of their children. Our classical training nourishes the students’ natural sense of wonder and guides them to know and love what is genuinely good, true, and beautiful. Faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church, we form our students to be virtuous disciples of Jesus Christ and joyful witnesses to the Gospel. Comments are closed.
