school newsletter: January 22, 2022

As many of you already know, the 22nd of January is known as the “Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children”. I invite you to join our school community in observing this day with an extra prayer or more for the safety of all children especially within the womb. Being Saturday, one could say the Joyful Mysteries using the suggested USCCB Pro-Life rosary intentions provided below before each decade.

The Annunciation: For parents facing an unexpected pregnancy, that they lovingly accept the precious life God has entrusted to their care.

The Visitation: That the family and friends of expectant parents might reach out and support them as they prepare to meet their child face to face.

The Nativity: That the love of the Blessed Mother and the Christ Child may be a source of strength for every expectant mother, especially mothers living in poverty, and that they both will be surrounded by joy and love.

The Presentation: That fathers of young children will model St. Joseph in devoutly practicing their faith, so that they lead their children to God by their words and example.

The Finding of Jesus in the Temple: For all children who have been lost and forgotten, that they may be led to a place where they are treasured, protected and loved.

CATHOLIC LIBERAL EDUCATION IN ACTION
In middle school science, Dr. Clemen has been instructing students to work with others, perform experiments safely, and write neat and clear reports. Eighth graders have been using pendulums to study the conservation of energy and transfer of energy between potential energy and kinetic energy. Seventh graders finished up a lesson on changing ecosystems and learned a new word – eutrophication. (Ask a 7th grader what that word means.) Finally, sixth graders modeled the inner planets and made solar systems that filled the room- scaling these models using math skills. All these skills will be invaluable in their future classrooms and possible careers.

WITNESSES OF THE WEEK
Lucy and Elizabeth Rosas Arenas demonstrated “fidelity” (January’s virtue) and love for Our Lord in the Eucharist. A staff member witnessed from a far their great reverence as they passed the school chapel, not only making the sign of cross but genuflecting and bowing their heads. Thank you, girls, for having such a strong belief in the Real Presence.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
• VERY IMPORTANT: Please remember that if your child remains after school for an extracurricular event, they need to be under the supervision of a parent or another adult who will be responsible for their safety – also, students are asked not to have cell phones out on campus including during basketball games sharing videos or text conversations amongst peers.
• Congratulations to the Tabone Family (Mary Tabone in 2nd gr.) for the arrival of their new baby boy, James Stephen.
• Young ladies Grades 5-8, please consider auditioning for the Young Women’s Schola – choir rehearses on Wed. evenings 5-6 PM/meets on Sun. at 7:15 AM to sing for 8 AM Mass - please email Mr. Meloche if interested at [email protected]

• Please contact Mrs. Powell if your child is still interested in speaking before Masses about OLSOS on Jan. 29 or 30.
• Contact the school office if you are considering preschool options for next year.
• Keep a look out this week for our upcoming flyer highlighting our Catholic School Week events.
• Please remember to review the school lunch menu with students. Alternate lunches can only be served to students with allergies, if needed.
• Students who are absent for an extended period due to illness will be given the same number of days he/she was absent to complete and turn in missing work.
