School Newsletter: September 6, 2019

9/6/2019

Dear Our Lady Star of the Sea School Families,

As our first days of the new school year have entered into the record books, I am excited by what I see going on in our classrooms. Seeing all of the children returning, excited to begin a new year and new adventures is very energizing! Thank you to all of you who were able to process over from our opening Mass with the children and Father, as we welcomed Jesus back to our school chapel and received His blessings to begin another great year here at Star!
As a reminder hot lunch will begin on Monday, September 9th. Lunches are $4.00 for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade; $4.10 for 6th through 8th grades, and $0.50 for milk. If you are interested in applying for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, please complete the attached application.  This application must be completed each year, whether you are new to our school or a returning family.
Fall sports have begun with Cross Country (3rd through 8th grades) kicking off their season on the 5th of September and Soccer and Volleyball (5th through 8th grades) beginning Monday the 9th. Permission slips for these sports are in the office.
This year we will be placing some extra attention on our dress code and violations of it. If you receive a slip for a violation it is just a warning; however, for those students in 5th through 8th, the third notice will come with a discipline slip. Please review the dress code with your student(s) once more to be sure they understand what is required. The school staff will also be reviewing uniform standards with the students.
CALLING ALL SAFETY PATROL MEMBERS!! If your child is in grades 4-8, they have an opportunity to make a big difference before and after school by serving on the Safety Patrol. We had an excellent team last year, and I’m hoping to grow the team again this year! Many thanks to those who have been helping out so far this year. Applications are in the office for students who want to join.  Safety Patrol training is scheduled on Wednesday, September 11th.
Our 8th graders will be going on retreat from September 29th – October 2nd at the Powell Butte Retreat Center in Oregon.  Please keep them and their chaperones in your prayers as they get ready for this event.

UPCOMING EVENTS:
Mon, 23 Sept. - MAP testing window opens in grades 2-8.
