From the Desk of Mrs. Wolfe
Dear Our Lady Star of the Sea School Families,
Happy New Year, and welcome back to school! I hope you had a blessed Christmas, and are ready for
2018! We are back in the swing of things here at school, and looking forward to the continuation of our Boys and Girls Basketball season for grades 6-8, and the beginning of the season for grades 4-5. This Friday, Jan. 12, right after school, there will be an orientation for parents and students in grades 4 and 5 who are interested in turning out for the season. Practices will begin the week of Jan. 16, 2018.
Pro-Life Poster and Essay Contest! Rose and Ernie Ryan met with the children this last week to share the contest rules; the theme is, “Unborn Lives are Children of God.” The contest is open to all students in grades 1-8, with 4 divisions – gr. 1-2; gr. 3-4; gr. 5-6 for posters, and grades 7-8 for essays. I also heard that the judges really look for the theme stated clearly on the work. The contest rules and entry form will be included in each of the Friday Folder emails beginning with this week; please be sure to attach the entry form to the back of the student’s entry. Entries are due to the school by noon on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. Judging of all entries will occur in Camerman Hall between Masses the weekend of Feb. 3 and 4 – we encourage you to vote! Each category will receive 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies at our Awards Assembly at the end of the year, and 1st place winners automatically advance to the state competition. Go Saints!!
Students (and their teachers) in grades 6-8 will be attending the March for Life on Monday, Jan. 22. Students need to be at school by 7:15 a.m. and will be back by 3:00 p.m. They must also bring a lunch. Cost is $10, but help is available with funding if that is needed. We want all students to attend!
