“Remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence.” - St. John Paul II
Dear Star Parents and Families, Today, as we come to the close of the 2019-2020 school year, the words of St. John Paul II above seem very appropriate. The Teachers and Staff of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic School would like to extend our deepest thanks for all you have done to make this most unusual year a success. The 3rd Trimester was not what we had hoped for when we began in September; however, we worked together and made it through. Yesterday, the Superintendent of Public Instruction announced that we will be returning to our buildings in the Fall. This has been our hope since the Stay-at-Home-Stay-Safe directives began. OLSOS will be working with the Archdiocese and planning for the first day of school, September 1. I will be monitoring the situation throughout the summer and will send you information when finalized. Congratulations to our graduating class and their families! The Mass and ceremony were wonderful! Thank you Father and Sr. Maria Caeli for all of your hard work and dedication to our students and school! The Accelerated Reader (AR) Program will be available during the summer. If your child is interested in participating, he/she should use the same log-in information. Please contact Mrs. Kennedy (ckennedy@starofthesea.net) if you have questions. The i-Ready Program will also be available through the summer. Additionally, Sister Daniela will be offering a book club for the new and current Fifth Grade girls (here’s the link). Again thank you all for your help, patience, and understanding as we navigated our way through a very unusual year. God bless and have a restful summer! June 5, 2020 Dear Star Parents and Families, This last week we were informed that we are able to hold a Graduation Mass for our 8th Grade class on Wednesday, June 10th! We are very excited to have the opportunity to celebrate the 8th Grade class, but unfortunately, we are not able to have our traditional all-school celebration due to COVID-19 restrictions. I would like to ask that you hold our graduates and their families in your hearts and prayers as they take their next step in their educational journey. We are all very proud of the accomplishments of our 8th Grade students! May God bless and keep them all! Traditionally we celebrate our Kindergarten - 7th Grade students during an Awards Assembly and Moving-Up Ceremony on the last day of school. Although we are unable to be physically present for the assembly, we’d still like to recognize the recipients of our St. Joan of Arc and St. Dominic Savio Awards. The St. Joan of Arc Award is given in recognition of heroic moral courage and zeal for the faith while the St. Dominic Savio Award is given in recognition of showing perseverance in living the Christian life. This year’s winners, by grade, are: St. Joan of Arc St. Dominic Savio Kindergarten Elisha Harrison 1st Grade Valentina Jeremy 2nd Grade Katie Henry 3rd Grade Kateri Jacob M. 4th Grade Grace Jacobe 5th grade Grace Ben P. 6th Grade Tara Aidan 7th Grade Lisa Michael Congratulations to you all! This time of transition is not limited to our students. After many years of faith-filled and loving service to her students and to the Star community as a whole, Mrs. Gio Hawkins has decided to retire. She will be missed by the students, parents, and the staff of Our Lady Star of Sea Catholic School. We have truly been blessed to have Mrs. Hawkins as part of our community! Thank you, Mrs.Hawkins, for all that you have done, God bless and enjoy your retirement! Not to worry Preschool Parents, please help me welcome our new Preschool teacher, Mrs. Kim Bennett. Mrs. Bennett has many years of experience teaching Preschool and comes to us from Kitsap HeadStart. She is a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea and knows the community rather well. We are very excited to welcome her to Star! Shortly you will be receiving a survey asking about your experience with the online learning program during the shutdown. Your honest assessment of the program will be immensely valuable for the planning of next year. Thank you, in advance, for your participation! Please remember to check your FACTS (Renweb) accounts for any outstanding fees. Final report cards and transcripts cannot be sent until all fees are paid. If you have any questions about your fees, please contact either Mrs. Shetler (tshetler@starofthesea.net) or Mrs. Geske (kgeske@starofthesea.net). We are looking for volunteers to fill the following positions for the 2020-2021 school year:
If you haven’t re-registered your child for the Fall, please go to your RenWeb account and complete the process soon so we can accurately plan for next year.
