“God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking His mercy.”   -Pope Francis

February 28, 2020

Dear Star Parents and Families,

This week was packed full of school events! The week started with our Middle School students traveling to Bainbridge Island to participate with St. Cecilia’s and Queen of Angel’s Middle School students in a NET retreat. The retreat was a success and the kids really enjoyed themselves. Thank you to the parents who helped transport the kids to St. Cecilia’s.

Tuesday was our Open House and the annual Science Fair. If you missed these events, you missed out on some great science projects. The kids did a fantastic job! Thank you to Mr. Fletcher for his hard work setting up the event. A special thank you also goes to our two judges Mr. Geske and Mr. Quebral for doing a fantastic job!

A big thank you to all the parents and family members who helped their budding scientists discover the excitement that science can bring. The winners of the 2019-2020 Science Fair are included in this emailing as a separate attachment. You all did a very good job and should be proud of your work!

Finally, Wednesday brought us to the beginning of the Lenten season with the Ash Wednesday Mass.  The students were given Rice Bowls to encourage almsgiving. Rice Bowls will be collected on Good Friday.

Dear Star Parents and Families,

This week has been very busy! Re-enrollment for next year is currently underway. If you haven’t already re-enrolled, please take the time to complete the process by next week because open enrollment for new students will begin March 2nd.  As a reminder, the re-enrollment is not complete until the Tuition Worksheet & the Annual Fund paperwork has been returned to the school office.

There seems to be some confusion over the announcement I made in last week’s letter pertaining to the in-parish tuition change. The announced change stated any practicing Catholic family can now qualify for the in-parish tuition rate. Please note, you still need to attend Mass, either here at Star or at your home parish (St. Olaf’s, St Gabriel’s, Holy Trinity, etc.). Attached to this email is a new form that verifies a family’s participation at Mass. This form will need to be filled out by ALL families requesting the in-parish tuition rate, including those who attend Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea. Without this completed document, you will be charged the full tuition rate for the 2020-2021 school year. If you need more paperwork or help with your re-enrollment contact the office.

This week we began our after school clubs and they seem to be fairly full. Please remember, unless otherwise notified by the club leader, all clubs start at 3:30 pm and end at 4:00 pm. All students MUST be picked up from their club by 4:00 pm.  Students not picked up after this time will be sent to Star Care.

Recently I was made aware that there were some students who had missed out on the Free Dress Day they earned for volunteering at Mass or the Pancake Breakfast during Catholic Schools Week. Therefore, we have designated Monday, March 2nd as the date for those students to receive their free dress. Please remember this is only for those who helped out at Mass or the Pancake Breakfast during Catholic Schools Week. If you have already had your free dress you may not participate on the 2nd.   March 2nd is only for students who were eligible but forgot on the 3rd of February.

Lastly, students may bring their science fair boards and equipment to the lunchroom on the morning of Tuesday, February 25th.  The school doors across from the gym will be open at 7:30 am.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”   Galatians 5:22-23a

February 13, 2020

Dear Star Parents and Families,
This week began the re-enrollment process for returning students. Please make sure that you do both the online re-enrollment as well as return the Tuition Worksheet and an Annual Fund pledge form. Both forms are included in the re-enrollment packet that was sent home last week. If you need more paperwork or help with your re-enrollment contact the office. Please be mindful that open enrollment begins in early March, completing your online re-enrollment and returning the forms as soon as possible will ensure you don’t lose your spot!

This week we also had parent-teacher conferences. If you were not able to attend a conference and want to speak with your child’s teacher, please contact the teacher directly to set up a time to meet.

After school clubs will begin next Tuesday, 18 February.  If you have not yet registered for a club, you may still register until Friday, 21 February.  All students MUST be picked up from their club by 4:00 pm.  Students not picked up after this time will be sent to Star Care.

Next Thursday, 20 February, there will be no afternoon bus service. Our bus driver needs to be in Tacoma that afternoon. Which brings up the need for a second bus driver. If anyone knows of a person interested, or they themselves are interested, in driving one of our school buses, please contact the school office. We are looking for a second driver for the remainder of this year and beyond.

Finally, Father has announced a change in the way tuition will be collected.
